Why are people choosing the new Ecoline Fume Cupboard?
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010New Simple Unique
Lower first cost – whilst fume cupboard prices vary depending on quantity, location and market conditions, feedback shows that the Ecoline first cost averages at approx 15% lower than traditional units.
Lower set up cost– the ability of the Ecoline to perform effectively with 40% lower energy consumption than traditional units means lower air handling plant costs (extraction, heating and air input), and can even negate the use of VAV systems.
Lower running cost – operating safely and effectively at .3m/sec face velocity where as traditional units require .5m/sec, means that the Ecoline provides a 40% energy saving.
Lower maintenance cost– through ergonomic design incorporating a solid wall construction, easy access to services and a sash height stop with automatic re engagement facility, the Ecoline is much easier and lower in cost to maintain when compared to traditional units with hollow wall construction, access to services from within the fume chamber and key operated sash stops with all the associated problems of breakage and non re engagement.
Safer to use– through mathematically determined internal geometry, the Ecoline maintains a more stable vortex condition when in use and is therefore able to provide better containment and operator protection at lower face velocities than traditional units. The sash stop automatic re engagement facility reduces the frequency and likelyhood of the sash being raised above the safest operational height.
Alarm – the Ecoline is supplied with a unique alarm system which includes audible and visual signals for sash high, air low and air high which represents as big a threat to user safety and operational efficiency as air fail.
Safer to maintain – all service controls can be accessed for maintenance or replacement from outside the fume chamber. Traditional hollow wall type units with outer skin and inner liner which generally forms a 150mm wide service void to each side of the chamber are not always completely air tight. This means that fumes and contaminant can leach into the void, build up and lodge, only to be released when the area is accessed for maintenance/replacement of service controls and outlets.
Safer to install– the Ecoline has been developed specifically to reduce manhandling load levels.
Testing – the Ecoline has been independently tested to BS14175 across a range of face velocities and the results can be compared with the same test and range applied traditional units.
Environment– a 40% reduction in exhaust to atmosphere of heated and pre conditioned air means a 40% reduction in energy and fuel consumption when compared to traditional units.
BREEAM– everything about the Ecoline reflects a commitment to reduction in carbon footprint. Lower operational energy and fuel consumption, lower air handling plant combined with simple ergonomic design which reduces materials and components required in the construction compared to traditional units. The Ecoline is manufactured in Manchester at the centre of the UK. All materials and components are sourced locally and S+B operates regionally based specialist installation teams to reduce travelling time and fuel consumption.
More Operator space – the simple robust solid wall construction gives the operator up to 22%* additional internal working width when compared to traditional units with hollow wall construction and wide side stiles, but within the same external footprint. This means the user can reduce the external footprint with minimal compromise to internal working width but with a cost saving benefit, increase the population of fume cupboards within a given space or utilise the greater internal working space within each unit.
*22 for 1200 wide units (external), 18% for 1500 wide units, and 13% for 2000 wide units.
Durable– the Ecoline is a solid wall construction with chemically resistant interior and exterior coverings. The components used in the assembly are kept to a minimum to reduce cost and carbon footprint, but also to minimise the number of things that could go wrong, would need maintaining or replacement. The materials used in the construction are proven over decades in the most chemically aggressive environments. The use of metal parts is also kept to a minimum (used for service outlets with epoxy powder coating and for specialist applications such as higher than normal heat loads and some radioactive applications where 316 grade stainless steel inner liners maybe used) because of its susceptibility to chemical attack.
Worktops– a dished chemically resistant cast epoxy resin worktop will meet most general applications. A range of alternatives such as ceramic, 316 grade stainless steel, toughened glass, polypropolene are available to meet specific specialist applications.
Interior Lining– the use of chemically resistant coatings to the solid wall construction negates the requirement for an additional inner liner for most applications. Trespa back baffles are suitable for most applications, but as is the case with worktops a similar range of alternatives are available for specialist applications.
Storage– the Ecoline can be provided with ergonomically designed under bench storage units with sliding doors or with 170deg hinged doors. Storage units can be vented into the extraction system and can be lined for acid and solvent storage.
