King Edward’s School UK

Founded by Edward VI in 1552, King Edward’s School (KES) is among the oldest independent schools in the UK, situated in the historic city of Bath.

In 2022, KES embarked on a significant £1 million investment to upgrade and expand its STEM facilities, a decision that reflects the increasing interest in these subjects among its students.

The aim of this investment was to create inspiring learning environments that not only enhance classroom education but also support the school’s co-curricular STEM activities, such as participation in science Olympiads and masterclasses with well-known institutions like the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories in Oxford.

As part of this ambitious initiative, two laboratories were refurbished to provide modern, well-equipped spaces for learning. S+B UK designed and manufactured the bespoke lab furniture, helping the school achieve their vision.

Each laboratory includes Crescent student benches designed to facilitate both practical and theoretical learning, as well as additional wall benching that incorporates essential storage and IT areas. To ensure safe experimentation, two Ecoline ducted fume cupboards were installed, alongside teacher demonstration desks.

The transformation of the science labs ensure that pupils have an enjoyable, purposeful, and safe experience in their STEM studies, empowering them to recognise the impact of science on their lives and the world around them.
