University of Reading – Health and Life Sciences Building

The University of Readings Health and Life Sciences Building is a new build project currently under construction with the main contractor Balfour Beatty and is due for completion by the end of 2019.

The project designed by Stride Treglown Architects is a £33 million state of the art facility which provides purpose-built research and teaching laboratories over four floors and will incorporate the School of Biological Sciences which is currently located in several buildings across the campus, the project is part of the Universities 10-year campus regeneration programme.

The new building will have reconfigurable teaching spaces which will facilitate teaching groups of up to 280 which will be one of the largest in the UK.

S+B worked closely with Balfour Beatty during the tender process to ensure that the product offered met the Architect and Universities standards and expectations to provide world-class research facility and also provide an excellent learning experience for all students, there were also rigorous cleanliness issues in some areas which suited S+B’s Exemplaire C frame furniture system.

S+B secured the project with a mix of Exemplaire C frame and Column system furniture, Trespa TopLab Plus worktops, suspended and mobile storage, safety stations and Spacesaver working storage, S+B are due to start on site late May 2019.
