Thames Christian School UK

In the vibrant landscape of South London, Thames Christian School has embarked on an exciting journey of growth and transformation with its new state-of-the-art campus, as part of the Winstanley and York Road Regeneration Project. This visionary initiative has provided the school with a remarkable opportunity to expand its horizons and establish a dedicated sixth form, enriching the educational journey for its students.

Thames Christian School, renowned for its commitment to quality education and nurturing environment, is an Independent coeducational secondary school with a focus on small classes that has gained a reputation for fostering academic excellence and personal development.

Situated adjacent to Clapham Junction railway station, the new 6-storey, 5,000m2 building has enabled the school’s expansion to accommodate 400 students. Thames has been described as the ‘blueprint’ for all schools aiming to meet the needs of mainstream pupils alongside those with additional learning needs.

The new campus offers an array of specialized facilities designed to empower students’ academic and creative pursuits. These include purpose-built science laboratories tailored to meet A-level standards, woodwork and STEAM workshops, a fully equipped cookery classroom, textiles and art studios, music rooms, a dynamic dance studio, and a drama theatre. The campus also boasts a multitude of science and traditional classrooms, science prep rooms, and storage spaces.

S+B UK played an integral role from the early stages of the design process for Thames Christian School’s new lab spaces. We collaborated closely with the school’s headteacher to develop the project’s specifications and scope. Additionally, the senior leadership team, along with the project architect, visited our cutting-edge facilities in Manchester. This visit provided first-hand insight into how our advanced manufacturing technology enables the production of high-quality furniture that meets the most exacting standards.

Furthermore, S+B UK facilitated site visits to completed laboratory installations, allowing the school team to thoroughly assess the design and quality of our laboratory furniture.

The school opted for Saturn and Mercury student workstations, bespoke benching with seamlessly incorporated high adjustable sections, teacher demo desks, teaching walls and realisation benches for its purpose built science laboratories and specialist areas.

The inclusion of S+B’s stationary fume cupboard, the Ecoline , alongside our mobile recirculating fume hood, the Mobiline, plays a crucial role in creating a safe environment for students and educators to conduct hands-on experiments.
